Within each Showerhead order, we’ve included a package of white teflon thread seal tape. This is used to cover the threads of your water pipe before screwing in the Canopy Filtered Showerhead to provide a tighter seal.
You don’t have to use this tape if you don’t want to, the Canopy Showerhead was built to work without teflon tape, however, adding the tape first will create a leak-proof connection between the showerhead and the shower arm (the pipe that extends from the wall and connects to the showerhead).
Here's why we recommend using the teflon tape in the installation process:
- Thread Sealing: The primary purpose of Teflon tape is to create a watertight seal between threaded connections. When you screw the showerhead onto the shower arm, the Teflon tape fills any gaps between the threads, preventing water from leaking out.
- Leak Prevention: Without Teflon tape, there may be small imperfections or gaps between the threaded surfaces due to manufacturing tolerances or wear and tear. These imperfections can lead to leaks, resulting in water wastage and potentially damaging the wall behind the showerhead. Teflon tape acts as a barrier, sealing those imperfections and preventing water from escaping.
- Corrosion Protection: Teflon tape can also provide a degree of protection against corrosion, especially when dealing with metal-to-metal connections. It helps to reduce the risk of rust and oxidation that may occur over time due to constant exposure to water.
Don’t wrap too much Teflon tape, as excessive tape may prevent the showerhead from screwing in properly. A few wraps are generally sufficient for a watertight seal.
